Astronomy Festival features programs and activities presented by Zion National Park and Cedar Breaks National Monument. All programs are FREE and open to the public and will highlight the amazing night sky in and around Southwestern Utah. The festival features in-person programs and activities during the day and night throughout the weekend. Visitors will have the opportunity to participate in lectures, star\ parties, activities at the Ashcroft Observatory, traditional storytelling, a portable planetarium, solar viewing, and more. The 17th Annual Cedar City Half Marathon & Adventure 5K race begins at 7:00 am at Woods Ranch Recreation Area and will continue down Cedar Canyon, featuring plenty of pleasant surprises and one of the most spectacular downhill closed-canyon run. On race day, Cedar Canyon is closed to all vehicles, and at the mouth of Cedar Canyon, all runners will transition onto Cedar's magnificent trail system all the way to the finish line at Bicentennial Park. Parowan Gap: Fall Equinox begins at 6:00 pm at the Parowan Gap Historic Site (13 miles N of Cedar City off Hwy 130). Admission is FREE and everyone is welcome to join. Please come dressed for cooler fall weather and sturdy hiking shoes. At 6:00 pm meet at the Gap for the Fall Equinox presentation, followed at 7:00 pm a walk to the Fall Equinox Carine to observe the sun as it sets down the center of the Parowan Gap.
Getting There: The Parowan Gap is 13 miles north of Cedar City via Hwy 130.
From Cedar City: Go north on Main Street to Hwy 130 and continue north for 13.5 miles, then turn east and go 2.5 miles on the Gap Road.
From Parowan: Go north on Main Street to 400 North, turn west, drive under the interstate, and continue west for 10.5 miles.
